Every year, hundreds of older kids and teens in Bucks County are overlooked during the holidays. Toy drives provide the right gifts for kids under 12, but not much for older siblings.
YOU can help us change that by supporting our Holiday Gift Card Drive.
Our annual holiday gift card drive is in full swing and we need your help! Last year, 455 older kids and teens were able to receive a gift. This year the need is even greater.
“Every kid deserves to feel special during the holidays and deserves a gift no matter what their age,” said Shannon Hibbs, Pennsbury LYFT Community Mobilizer. “I think a lot of the time people focus on the younger kids and older kids get lost in the mix. This is such an easy way to make the holidays great for an older kid.”
Gift cards give older kids and teens the chance to go out, enjoy themselves with their friends, and get something they really want. For a kid who is expecting nothing this year, your gift will mean everything.
“For older kids who are not expecting to receive any gifts, a gift card means so much. They are so grateful that our community cares about them. It’s a meaningful and empowering experience for older kids to get a little something for themselves rather than be left out,” explains Danielle Bush, Director of Community and Volunteer Engagement at United Way.
She suggests that donors consider gift cards to places that teens enjoy shopping: Target, Walmart, popular clothing stores, and specialty shops like Starbucks and Barnes & Noble. A list of suggestions can be found at www.uwbucks.org/giftcarddrive.
We will accept gift cards of all denominations, starting at $5, now through December 16. All donations go to local teens and older kids who are experiencing a true need this holiday season.
There are three ways for members of the community to help with this project:
- Bring gift cards to our office: United Way of Bucks County, 413 Hood Blvd., Fairless Hills, PA, 19030;
- Mail a check with “Gift Card Drive” on the memo line to the address above;
- Go to www.uwbucks.org/giftcarddrive to give online.
